Obituary of Sara M. Tichenor

Sara Marie Tichenor, age 63, of Coopers Plains, NY, passed on from this life on Monday, September 21, 2015. Born in Elmira, NY on September 19, 1952, eldest daughter of Milton and Ellen Tichenor, Sara grew up in Bath, NY. She received her BS in Special Education at Mansfield State College in PA and her RN at Alfred State College in NY. She taught Special Ed in the Hornell School District for several years, went on to many years of social work for TASSA in Steuben County, returned to college to get her RN and then worked at Arnot Ogden in Elmira, Soldiers & Sailors in Wellsboro, in-home hospice care in both NY and PA, and lastly at Corning Hospital. She also took in foster children for a number of years, happy to be able to share her peaceful and stable home with them during their unsettled time. After retiring from nursing, Sara did some volunteer work with her local Food Pantry and Senior Center. Sara is survived by her sister, Janet (Greg) Kubinyak of Clay, NY; nephew and niece Matthew and Marissa; cousins, an aunt, and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Milton (2000) and Ellen (1987) Tichenor. Sara will be remembered for her gentle and compassionate spirit, which was evident in all aspects of her personal and professional life. A memorial service for Sara, which will be arranged at her family's convenience, will be announced when plans are complete. Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S.
